Heat treatment

Targeted microstructure optimization through professional heat treatment

The mechanical properties of a forged part are largely determined by the final heat treatment. At Cotarko, we heat the workpieces slowly and thoroughly in order to set the exact material parameters for subsequent use or further mechanical processing (machining).

The various processes which serve to set the desired material properties for use or prepare for subsequent processing (forming or machining) differ through:

  • Annealing temperature
  • Annealing duration
  • Type of cooling
  • Sequence of different heat treatment steps

Our range of annealing processes

In close consultation with our customers, we guarantee specific characteristic values in terms of hardness, strength and microstructure. We offer the following processes in-house:

  • Normalizing: To achieve a uniform, fine-grained structure.

  • Tempering: Targeted combination of hardening and tempering for maximum toughness.

  • BG annealing: Special treatment to improve the machinability of certain steel alloys.

  • Controlled cooling: Directly from the forging heat to save energy and time.
